5 ways to combat cellulite

If you’re noticing those pesky dimples you are not alone. It has been reported that up to 90% of women experience cellulite and here's how you can treat it.

Women are more prone to cellulite than men as our fat is deposited differently, so if you’re noticing it you are not alone. It has been reported that up to 90% of women experience cellulite, it can appear in people of all shapes and sizes; you do not have to be overweight to experience it.

The good news is that the following tips can be built into your daily routine to diminish those dimples, and to prevent them returning or occurring in the first place. As everyone’s metabolism is different results can be noticed within one week, one month or a little longer, but they will come so don’t despair!

1. Dry body brush each day
Our Co-Founder Clare (who created the Super Toning blend when she was 18) is a huge fan of dry body brushing, and research has shown that daily brushing helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite, remove dead skin cells, improve circulation, detox the skin and unclog pores, to give you smoother skin! As a busy mum, Clare knows how to maximise her mornings, she uses a dry body brush in each hand so that she can spend under five minutes buffing herself beautiful.
How to dry body brush: Purchase a soft bristle dry body brush and use upward movements to stimulate the lymph system before your morning shower. The lymph system lives just beneath the surface of the skin, so it is best to do this first thing in the morning to boost your circulation for the day ahead. Skin will instantly feel energised and over time will have a smoother texture and appearance. We recommend showering after dry body brushing to rinse away the dead skin cells, and following with the Super Toning Body Polish, toning body wash and toning cream or body oil to maximise the results.

2. Moisturise more
Moisturising your body daily will help to keep it soft and supple in texture and so will reduce the appearance of existing dimples and prevent future ones forming. Massage our Super Toning Body Oil or Cream into the skin in circular motions, starting at the ankles and working up the body in the direction of the heart (massaging against the direction of the heart isn’t the most effective way to boost lymphatic drainage as this can put pressure on veins). 3. Pour yourself a glass (of water)
The body doesn’t know how to process artificial sweeteners which are found in all fizzy drinks (including diet versions), which can result in them being deposited beneath the surface of the skin and forming cellulite. One of the easiest ways to prevent and get rid of cellulite is to simply swap artificial drinks for pure water when you can. You should aim to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but if you find the taste boring, why not try adding a sprig of fresh mint, or slices of cucumber and lemon to your glass for added flavour?

4. Try to cut back on white carbohydrates, refined sugar and alcohol
We all know that white carbohydrates, fatty pre-packaged snacks, sweet treats and alcohol can (sadly) cause cellulite. This is because the body does not transform these foods into useable energy and so the fat is deposited beneath the skin, away from vital organs and creates the bumpy, uneven skin surface. To combat this, try swapping white carbohydrates for tasty low GI versions, such as sweet potato, brown rice or quinoa. Swap your regular sugary snacks for fruit or a handful of skin-boosting nuts, such as almonds, cashew nuts or hazelnuts which contain natural fatty acids, vitamins and essential fatty acids - these are good fats that your body can convert into energy. Alcohol, especially wine, is also full of sugar; if you don’t want to cut it out of your lifestyle completely then try to drink one glass of water after every glass of wine to help your body flush away these toxins. We believe that a little bit of what you fancy does you good, so don’t be too strict on yourself if you really fancy a sweet treat, bowl of pasta or glass of wine, just learn to listen to your body and be treat wise!

5. Make time to move a little more
Even light exercise that gets your heart pumping faster will boost your metabolism and your lymphatic system draining. This could be a brisk walk, swimming, yoga or something more energetic such as a spin class, dancing or running depending on what you enjoy. Make time for exercise in your daily routine and notice the difference. Try parking further away from the office, getting off the bus a stop earlier than you need or even getting out on your lunch break to keep yourself moving throughout the day. The more you move, the more you boost your body’s ability to shift the fat deposited beneath the surface of the skin which causes cellulite. Easy!
