9 tips from London’s future facialists

9 tips from London’s future facialists

That'll mean you can get glowing, post-facial results from the comfort of your own home!

Want flawless skin all-year round? We spent an afternoon at The London College of Beauty Therapy educating the city’s future facialists on how our natural skin care products deliver instant results for a host of celebrity therapists. While there, we had to ask these skin experts how they maintain glowing skin from the comfort of their own home. To discover our favourite insider insights, tips and tricks, read on. Your skin will thank you for it.

1. Your skin’s best friend is a natural cleanser
Investing in a good cleanser can eliminate a great majority of skincare issues. Our cleansers use advanced formulas to remove make-up and impurities but also give skin extra benefits. Try our Collagen Boost Restore and Replenish Cream Cleanser; it contains a gentle yet results-led natural peptide complex that is proven to dramatically boost skin’s collagen production, enhance radiance and hydration as well as deeply cleanse.

Top tip:  For that post-facial glow in under five minutes, massage across the face daily in upward circular motions then remove with water, a hot cloth or cotton pads.

2. You sweat when you sleep
People often omit cleansing in the morning as they don’t think their face gets dirty overnight. However you do sweat when you sleep and so to maintain a spot free, radiant complexion try our Pure Skin face Wash in the morning. It contains Grapefruit Essential Oil to gently cleanse the skin and prevent impurities without stripping away the skin’s natural moisture levels or causing dryness.

3. Muslin cloths get mucky
You’d never dry your dishes with a dirty tea towel, and if you don’t wash your muslin cloth every day you risk spreading bacteria and grime onto your skin which can cause unwanted spots and blackheads. Always use a clean muslin cloth to remove your cleanser with. Our 100% cotton natural muslin cloths can go in the washing machine and at just £3 each stock up so that you have a new one ready every day.

4. The way you apply eye cream boosts results
Fed up of the daily battle with bags, puffiness or dark shadows? Well, the way you actually apply your eye cream can make all the difference. Sian Jones, Balance Me’s Co-Creator and Head of Research and Development says, “For best results use the ring finger to gently pat your Wonder Eye Cream beneath the eye, starting at the outer edge and moving along the socket towards the inside corner of the eye. Also apply above the eye, starting at the inner corner and moving across the brow bone in the direction of the ear. These light touches will help to stimulate the lymph at key drainage points which helps remove the toxins that cause puffiness and dark shadows.” Cracking the secret to shadow-free eyes can make your whole complexion look brighter as a result so give this a try!

Top tip: Remember to use light pressure only when applying your eye cream. The lymph does not respond to firm pressure.

5. The art of skin care layering
The secret to perfect skin is through skincare rather than make-up. To create a glowing base your skin must be well-hydrated. As the weather gets colder it’s important to introduce a facial oil or face serum into your daily routine for hydrated winter skin. Before you apply moisturiser, we recommend trying Radiance Face Oil if you have dull, dehydrated skin, Rose Otto Face Oil if you suffer with sensitive skin, Anti-Ageing Face Serum to reduce fine lines and Congested Skin Serum if your skin is combination, oily or prone to spots.

Top tip: When layering your skincare, remember to apply products in the order of thinnest to thickest texture. This is the best way to apply products for maximum absorption into the skin.

6. Moisturising matters
Even if you suffer with combination or acne prone skin, proper hydration makes your skin look instantly healthy and the right moisturiser won’t make it greasy. The benefits of hydrating your skin will be visible years in the future as moisturising helps maintain skins elasticity, meaning that it is less likely to show premature signs of ageing. Fine lines can in some cases be because of dehydration rather than ageing and the simple solution is using a natural moisturiser twice daily!

Top tip: Try our Balancing Face Moisturiser if your skin is oily or spot prone, Moisture Rich Face Cream if it is normal or dry, Collagen Boost Restore and Replenish Face Cream if you have fine lines or a loss of elasticity or Intensive Wrinkle Repair if your skin is mature.

7. Face masks are a must
Suffer with spots or blackheads on the sides of your nose, crease of your chin or jawline? Spend time thoroughly applying cleanser to these areas and remember to use product down your neck too.  Our Radiance Face Mask contains Kaolin Clay to draw out impurities and ground Walnut Shells to slough away dead skin cells that can trap dirt and cause spots, making it a great weekly treatment.

8. How to clean your make-up brushes (with your face cleanser!)
If you’re cleansing your skin every day, properly hydrating it and still getting pesky spot breakouts, your make-up brushes could be causing the problem. Over time, your brushes become caked with dead skin cells, oil and dirt and this bacteria is then spread all over your face when you use them! We recommend that you wash your brushes at least every two weeks using a gentle natural cleanser to keep them in their best condition.

Top tip: Try our Pure Skin Face Wash, it contains Grapefruit Oil to gently break-down oil residue and strip dirt away from the bristles without drying them out. Simply mix the wash into an emulsion in a clean bowl with warm water and leave your brush to soak in it for a few minutes. Next circle the brush into the bowl and rinse it clean with warm water until all the cleanser is removed. It takes under five minutes and your skin will thank you for it!

9. The power of reflexology
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, if you experience skin disorders such as acne, eczema or psoriasis this can be linked to sluggish internal organs. Reflexology can help stimulate the function of specific organs by increasing blood flow and circulation of oxygen in the body. This in turn helps to remove waste material from the body and can result in clearer skin.
