Five cookbooks to bring holiday food home

Five cookbooks to bring holiday food home

"From beach barbecues in Cornwall, to fish curry in Sri Lanka, our holiday memories are so often linked to food. Inspired by our recent travels here are five cookbooks we're using right now to recreate happy holiday vibes back home." Rebecca and Clare, Sister and Co-Founders

Prawn on the Lawn: Fish and seafood to share

Rebecca and Clare: “Cornwall is our happy place and we’ve been going there as a family for more than 35 years. Nothing beats a BBQ on the beach, but this year we discovered Prawn on the Lawn in Padstow which is run by a lovely couple from London’s Islington and is definitely a close contender! Their cook book means you can knock up some of their delicious fish and seafood meals at home and, from their signature ‘prawn on the lawn’ dish (avocado and chilli on toast topped with cooked prawns) which is surprisingly simple, to beetroot-cured salmon and razor clams with nam jim, there’s something delicious for everyone.”

Weligama: Recipes from Sri Lanka

Clare: “I had the trip of a lifetime in Sri Lanka this Easter and so this book is top of my list. The people, wildlife, gorgeous beaches and tea plantations were just amazing, not to mention the knock-out curries! And this cook book by Emily Dobbs transports me right back, with lots of recipes and pictures of places we visited. Interestingly, Emily brought Sri Lankan food to the London street food scene with her hopper stall at Druid Street Market, and so she’s used to putting her own twist on traditional recipes. I can’t wait to cook from this!”

Mediterranean: Naturally nourishing recipes from the world’s healthiest diet

Rebecca: “I love the laid-back vibe in Greece, with its sun-drenched beaches and crystal blue seas. We visited last year for my husband's birthday, and so this would be the perfect present for this year's celebrations, to remind us of those alfresco dinners spent chatting late into the night. With recipes like Pan-seared Figs with Pecorino and Rockett, Courgette and Dill Fritters, and Fish En Papillotte with Capers & Tomatoes, this cook book is a treat for the eyes as well as the plate! Written by food stylist Susie Theodorou (who’s past work includes Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘It’s All Good’).”

Eivissa: The Ibiza Cook Book

Rebecca: “In early May I was lucky enough to escape for a few days to a yoga retreat in Ibiza, which was the perfect place to renew my mind, body and find some much-needed balance! The island may be less known for its food culture but, with a whole host of local cheese-makers, bakers, bee-keepers, fishermen and farmers leading a burgeoning sustainable food movement, the famous party island has so much to offer these days. This book, written by the island’s only tomato farmer, Anne Sijmonsbergen, is full of vibrant recipes and the perfect reminder of my few 'balanced' days away from it all.”

Jack’s Wife Freda: Cooking from New York’s West Village

Clare – “Okay so I’ve snuck this in here, as I have my eyes set on New York for a trip next year! Top of my list of must-visits would be hotspots such as the MoMa and The High Line, but I also love soaking up a city like a local which in New York has got to mean, brunch! For now at least, the Jack’s Wife Freda cook book with recipes from the eponymous West Village all-day bistro (and favourite of the Instagram set!) will do nicely!”
