Meet Ben Andrews, a trainer at Bootcamp Pilates!

What makes Bootcamp Pilates different to regular Pilates?

The intensity is higher. Reformer Pilates takes Pilates and exercise in general to the next level, and Bootcamp Pilates takes it that extra notch with higher tempo classes so you achieve results much faster. With Reformer Pilates, you do have to control your body weight, you’re also working with a spring or springs as resistance, making the workout tough but at the same time efficient.

Day-to-day demands keep us busy, why is it important to find time to workout?

It is important to find time to benefit your health, both mentally and physically. If you ever feel stressed, down or tired, a workout will release feel-good hormones to the body and make you feel great. A one-hour workout is a small percentage of your day so make the time, it will be worth it.

Favourite Pilates move?

A tough question, but it has to be the standing Ice-breaker. A great functional exercise, that activates your whole body, a safe exercise for your lower back when working with perfect technique. For me, the heavier the spring the better!

How do you find your balance when you’re feeling overstretched?

It can be a challenge because you struggle to engage your muscles when they are in a relaxed state, you also don’t want to put too much tension on your muscles after stretching, which is why dynamic stretching (stretching whilst moving) is recommended before a workout and static stretching at the end.

We want to re-fresh our workout – do you have any tips?

Change the music and up the tempo! Music can play a big part when it comes to motivation.

When you want to totally unwind and forget the world, where do you go/what do you do?

There is nothing better than going on a run by the River Thames with my headphones on, so therapeutic!

One thing guaranteed to put a smile on your face?

Definitely a win from my beloved Liverpool FC!

After a particularly hard day what’s your favourite thing to cook?

After a long day, I look forward to a nice meal consisting of scrambled egg, smoked salmon, chicken and veg. An easy, delicious and healthy meal!
