It's London Fashion Week and we talk to Sarah Hunt the Models go-to Yoga Guru
What does your daily skincare routine consist of?
I start my day off with a simple cleanser and follow with a moisturiser. I find my skin gets very dry in London so keeping skin hydrated helps a lot. At night I use facial oil I find this helps my skin to restore while sleeping.
How do you achieve balance in life?
Achieving balance is one of the most important things to me in my life. I travel around London for my job all day and am with people the majority of the time. I usually have a few breaks in between appointments, so during these times I usually go to one of London's many parks. This down time is important; it helps me connect to my surroundings, to nature but also with myself. I also try to maintain a good life balance with a mix of socialising, travel and yoga.
Tell us about when you first discovered yoga.
I discovered yoga by mistake! I was never a "gym" person but about 10 years ago I decided to give it another try. I walked around the weight room for a few minutes and it didn't feel natural to me so I decided to leave. In a joking way, the receptionist caught me sneaking out early and encouraged me to join a yoga class that was just about to start. I was reluctant but I went anyway. I instantly loved it and it was that moment that yoga became a big part of my life.
Where's your favourite place to practice?
My all-time favourite place to practice yoga is at my family cottage in Canada. It's on a small island without any distractions. I bring my yoga mat to the dock so that I can be by the lake and the only things around me are ducks and fish. It's incredible! If I’m not in Canada then I love to practice anywhere outdoors. There is something very special about doing yoga on the grass, under the clouds with the wind against your skin.
Do you have a go-to beauty product?
I love any product that is moisturising, anything hydrating that makes your skin feel like it’s glowing!
What are the best and worst food for skin?
The foods we eat have a direct impact on our skin. If you want a healthy glow choose lots of fruits and vegetables. These colourful foods are very hydrating and packed with antioxidants. They help to fight free radicals, which are some of the main causes of ageing.
Healthy fats such as avocados, coconuts and olive oil are also very beneficial for healthy skin. The foods to avoid are sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods. These dry out and age our skin, find balance as a poor diet can cause inflammation which leads to oxidative stress within our bodies and therefore speeds up the ageing process!
Do you have a signature dish?
My favourite dish is something I call a rich bowl. It doesn't have to be specifically rich though - it could be replaced with quinoa or lentils instead. It is packed with a combination of raw and cooked veggies, topped with a variety of seeds and drizzled with a homemade sesame tahini sauce. YUM!
If you had 3 wishes what would they be – you can't wish for more wishes ;-) ?
My three wishes would be:
1) Time travel
There are so many periods of time that I would love to experience in person!
I have always been mesmerised (and jealous) of birds flying through the sky. I love traveling on airplanes as it's the closest I I’ll ever be to flying myself!
3) To be with the people I love and the places I love in an instant
Here is an example day - to teach a morning yoga class in London then meet an old friend in Canada for lunch then enjoy a sunset with my family in the Caribbean
If you hadn't become a yoga teacher, what would you be doing?
I have always loved to travel so I would definitely be involved in the travel and tourism industry. The main stipulation to this career choice is that I would have to be living in a tropical climate with palm trees and beaches as my main surroundings. I love helping others to have fun and enjoy life! I don’t think there is a better way to do this than through travel!
