Amalfi Coast

Jess’s Amalfi Coast Travel Guide

Balance Me’s Jess recently fell in love with the Amalfi coast, where she visited with her sister. Read on for all things pasta, lemons, gorgeous views and breathtaking beaches.

Favourite town?

Praiano – Nestled between picturesque towns, Positano and Amalfi, Praiano is a coastal town in the Campania region of Southwest Italy. Quaint and authentically Italian, Praiano oozes charm. Spend an afternoon jumping off rocks into the emerald blue sea at One Fire Beach. Who wouldn’t love swimming in the ocean with a view across to Positano?

Sorrento- This is where my sister and I stayed and it had amazing resturants and bars, boutique shops and little beaches. This is the best place to stay along the Amalfi Coast if you plan on taking day trips to the neighbouring towns and islands as ferries and buses depart from Sorrento port daily.

Positano- The most picturesque place I have ever been. Positano is a town built into the side of a cliff, therefore the views are spectacular and very unique.

Favourite beach ?

Leonelli's in Sorrento – If you haven’t sunbathed on a pier before then this is most definitely the place to try it! Situated on Marina Piccola in Sorrento, this terrace has steps into the sea and floating sun loungers! Having said that, the beach mentioned above in Praiano takes some beating in my eyes! I’ve also heard great things about the beaches on the island Ischia.

Favourite place to eat?

Trattoria Da Emilia (Sorrento) – Home-cooked delicious dishes, animated staff and an unbeatable harbour location, we had an unforgettable dinner here. Enjoy a carafe of crisp white wine whilst taking in the sunset and make sure you try the Spaghetti Alle Vongole, a popular dish in the region. Frequented by Sophia Loren (!) this harbour-side restaurant is truly authentic and will give you a slice of the ‘la dolce vita’.

Café Latino (Sorrento) – Enjoy the most delicious food in a beautiful, atmospheric setting amongst candlelight and lemon trees. Make a reservation here, as it is a popular spot for a late night dinner. Be sure to finish with a Limoncello and save some space for a slice of lemon and orange cake, it is divine!

Gelateria Primavera (Sorrento) – You can’t go to Italy and not scope out the best gelato. Gelateria Primavera has the best selection of tempting flavours I have ever come across and let me tell you… it is super creamy and so delicious.  Tempted yet?

A hidden gem?

Fornillo Beach Positano – Take the picturesque coastal walk from Positano to the Fornillo Beach and you will be treated to a spectacular site of clear blue waters and fisherman in their rowing boats. The walk is serene and peaceful and you pass endless bougainvillea… it’s pretty dreamy.
