This week, we’re celebrating one of our most treasured essential oils; rose. Read on to find out about this delicate bloom in skincare throughout the ages…
A quick Google search pulls up a variety of uses for roses. From delighting the taste buds as rose tea, jam or even as a cocktail, to adding a gorgeous scent to linen drawers and prettifying picture frames, the benefits of the rose is truly diverse. It’s also one of our favourite ingredients here at Balance Me as a super soothing and calming treat for skin.
Roses, and their skin-boosting properties, have had a firm place on dressing tables for hundreds of years. So why not take a leaf out of the ancients’ beauty guides and try out the soothing powers of these fragrant blooms?
Bathe like Cleopatra
The Egyptian ruler added roses to her famous milk baths, unlocking the bloom’s charming, delicate aroma and enhancing the skin-boosting effects of a relaxing soak. The conditioning properties of the rose oil make it wonderfully skin-calming whilst also being mood enhancing and uplifting. Take a tip from Cleo and add a capful of our rose otto body wash to a warm bath to balancing both your skin and mind back into balance (especially recommended after a Chistmas shopping frenzy on Oxford Street!). Then melt some of our rose otto body cream into skin for a velvety soft finish and leave parched areas effortlessly hydrated. Alternatively try our new rose otto body oil to smooth away imperfections and restore elasticity. The rose trio of softening rose otto, palma rosa and rose geranium essential oils create an exquisite aroma and super soft skin.
Be a skincare goddess
The Greek goddess of flowers, Cloris, wore a wreath of roses, a nod towards the prestigious status of the bloom as ‘the queen of flowers’. Elsewhere in Greek mythology, Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love, took the rose as her symbol, so take note and show your skin some TLC with these cherishing tips. Rose oil helps to reduce redness in skin so our new rose otto face oil is a wonderful way to soothe compromised skin and can help to calm rosecea and eczema. As a rich source of vitamin C, a potent antioxidant, the oil can help to protect skin cells from damage suffered through daily wear and tear.
A Roman remedy
As expert cultivators of numerous rose varieties, the Romans knew a thing or two about the value of this delicate flora (they even had a goddess of flowers of the same name!). Scattering the delicate buds on floors to decorate and fragrance their halls before a big banquet, they also washed their hands in rosewater to unlock the antibacterial properties of the rose. Try applying our rose otto body balm to soothe skin after sun exposure or calm grazed skin. The skin-quenching rose otto oil gives skin an instant glow with a dreamy long-lasting aroma that’s a fabulous touch to party skin this festive season.
Get your skin looking blooming lovely (couldn’t resist!) and try out our brand new rose oils or treat a friend with our rose otto deluxe Christmas bundle for a bath time treat worthy of a queen.
