How can I combat dull, exhausted-looking skin?
Recent research in the UK reveals that sleep deprivation has reached epidemic proportions with a growing number of workforce citing sleep problems as a key health issue and many claiming to sleep for no more than five hours a night. As a result you may be experiencing grey or lacklustre skin, which can make you look and feel visibly older.
We say give your skin back the radiance it deserves with our triple-action, skin brightening Radiance Face Mask and skin boosting Radiance Face Oil. We’ve blended powerfully restorative and replenishing ingredients such as ancient skin conditioners Benzoin and Yarrow, with Angelica, Buriti Nut Oil and AHA Fruit Acids to allow your skin to rediscover its radiance and its youth, naturally.
How can I treat highly sensitised skin and skin prone to redness?
The harsh winter rain and icy temperatures, coupled with excessively warm central heating can give rise to redness as well as dry, sensitive patches on our skin. People with these types of skin concerns may even dread wetting their skin as it can further exacerbate their symptoms.
Helps is at hand with our Rose Otto skin and body ranges, packed with vitamins, anti-oxidants and essential fatty acids as well as our signature essential oil Rose blend. We’ve designed each product to calm irritation, reduce redness and treat stubborn dry patches to protect delicate skin and skin prone to eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.
Our sulphate-free, gentle body wash is soothing and softening (we call it ‘skincare for wet skin’); our Rose Otto Face Oil is protecting and skin-strengthening; and our hand and body creams, with their velvet textures are deeply hydrating and help to soften really dry skin.
I’m experiencing adult acne, what can I do to reduce it?
Although up to 80% of us will suffer from acne before we reach the age of 25, we often receive cries for help from customers in their 30s and 40s who are experiencing flare ups, either post childbirth or if they’re feeling particularly pressurised in their daily lives.
Beat these frustrating breakouts with our Congested Skin Serum. We’ve formulated this cooling gel-like cream to calm, refine pores and reduce redness thanks to our bespoke blend of Kanuka, Spruce Knot and Rice Bran Oil. It’s non-drying and non-stripping so it won’t irritate or exacerbate any associated dry patches that might not need re-balancing.
For a complete routine, we recommend cleansing twice daily with our Pure Skin Face Wash, it contains Grapefruit Essential Oil to gently cleanse and brighten the skin while the sulphate-free formula doesn’t cause dryness. Next, apply Congested Skin Serum across the whole face or directly onto spots then follow with a layer of Balancing Face Moisturiser. This light, anti-blemish cream is blended with Neroli Oil which clears blemishes, Spruce Knot and Roman Chamomile extract to reduce redness, inflammation and spots and Bergamot Oil to boost skin’s radiance. If you’re experiencing visible pores, pat Instant Lift Pore Minimiser onto these areas after moisturising until fully absorbed. It contains Acacia Gum to refine the skin’s surface and Hyaluronic Acid to instantly smooth skin’s surface. We also recommend using the Radiance Face Mask once or twice in your weekly routine; it contains Kaolin Clay to draw out impurities from the pores and Walnut Spheres to lift away dead or dry skin cells that can trap dirt.
How can I reduce the visible signs of age spots and pigmentation?
These brown spots, often referred to as ‘age spots’ or ‘liver spots’ are not really caused by ageing, but they do multiply as you age. They’re the result of sun exposure or skin damage, which is why they tend to appear in areas that receive more than their fair share of sunlight such as the face, hands, neck and chest. Irregular pigmentation can also occur as a result of hormonal fluctuations e.g. during pregnancy which can lead to melasma (‘pregnancy mask’) or as a result of acne scarring.
Ageing, sun exposure, hormones and genetics can all affect the normal production of melanin which in turn will affect the amount of pigment produced, how and where it is distributed, resulting in an uneven skin tone. As we age (you will notice that children tend have smooth skin and very little skin pigmentation) the skin has to defend itself more often to environmental factors. The epidermis may become more bumpy and mottled in appearance which in many cases is more of an age concern than fine lines or wrinkles.
Minimising excessive sunlight exposure and environmental damage is always the best preventative measure and we do recommend applying SPF protection right up until the end of October! Thanks to our innovative natural physical SPF which blocks out both UVA and UVB rays (found in both our Natural Protection Moisturiser SPF25 and our BB Natural Perfection SPF25) you can help to protect your precious skin from daily wear and tear. Both products also contain Blackberry Seed Extract, a super powerful anti-oxidant that helps to neutralise the effects of environmental damage and stimulate collagen production.
Do you have a natural remedy for cold sores?
Caused by the herpes simplex virus these small and painful fluid-filled sores or blisters tend to occur around the edges of the lips. They can last for up to 10 days, are very contagious and can reoccur throughout your lifetime. Triggers can include stress, tiredness, menstruation, excessive sunlight or fever. They are unsightly, can affect your confidence and are a nuisance to cover up.
Stellar Beauty Balm is a go-to, natural preventative measure against cold sores. We’ve blended Organic Shea, Cocoa and Mango Butters with anti-bacterial and anti-viral May Chang and calming Red Mandarin to create a 100% natural balm to soothe, soften and shield skin around the clock. Apply daily to keep lips in good condition and more frequently if you feel a cold sore coming to keep it at bay.
Which products will help reduce scarring?
Scarring occurs as a result of any process that might disrupt the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis. This can range from skin stretching during pregnancy, excessive weight gain and loss or other forms of skin trauma including acne, chicken pox, burns or cuts. Scars can be flat, raised or proliferative (overgrown and known as ‘keloid’ ) in appearance.
Unfortunately scars are normally permanent due to the change of the skin’s cell structure. The good news is that there are several proven preventative measures to help stop them occurring in the first place, as well as helping to improve the look of any scar tissue, and indeed help them to fade over time.
We created our Super Moisturising Body Oil when Co-Founder Rebecca was pregnant with her first child to protect against stretch marks. It contains anti-oxidant, vitamin and essential fatty-acid rich Jojoba, Coconut and Borage Oils as well as strengthening Neroli and Rosehip Oils to keep skin elastic. Rebecca is living proof that it’s a great insurance policy against pregnancy stretch marks! Breasts can also change size quite dramatically in the run up to menstruation and we would also encourage those experiencing excessive growth spurts, weight loss or gain to apply this oil generously, twice daily to any affected body parts.
Also, no matter how tempting it may be, don’t pick spots or scabs as they are trying to heal. The lesions may become deeper as a result. Remember the body is very capable of repairing itself to the best of its ability. For the face, we recommend applying our Radiance Face Oil before moisturiser once or twice daily. It contains Amazonian Buriti Nut, Camellia and Rosehip Oils to help brighten the skin, fade scarring and reduce redness. Massage two drops into the skin with fingertips, and focus on areas where there is scarring, until fully absorbed.
I’m concerned about my visible pores and fine lines, what can I use to help?
The Instant Lift Pore Minimiser is an on-the-spot treatment to firm, refine and smooth the skin’s texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and visible pores. What makes it so effective? It features lifting and tightening Acacia Gum and Acmella Oleracea Plant Extract that is scientifically proven to give both an instant smoothing effect plus a reduction in wrinkles when used regularly over 28 days. It also features super plumping Hyaluronic Acid and collagen boosting Blackberry Leaf Extract to target expression lines and create a firmer, smoother and more refined complexion. We recommend applying this after moisturiser, twice daily. Gently pat a small amount of cream directly onto expression lines and areas of enlarged pores for an instant blur effect and long-term refined results.
How can I get rid of cellulite?
The age-old complaint of so many of our female customers (men are less prone as they tend to be more muscular, ladies have a different type of fat distribution) is the bumpy, fatty, dimply patches that appear just under the surface of the skin on the bottom, thighs, backs of arms and lower backs. It’s caused by the build-up of toxins that the body has deposited into tissues away from vital organs and you don’t have to be overweight to experience this.
Balance Me has dedicated a whole range – Super Toning – to target these dreaded dimples and help you to achieve a smoother-looking body! Every product in the range contains a detoxing blend of Lavender, Geranium, Juniper and Bergamot Essential Oils which help to boost circulation and lymphatic drainage for a smoother skin surface. We advocate dry body brushing and then moisturising twice daily with our super plumping and firming body oil or cream, but if you’re too short on time to dry body brush use our Super Toning Body Polish instead that with Ground Walnut Spheres and Blackberry Leaf Extract will slough away dead skin cells and promote collagen and elastic production for firmer more glowing skin.
This bespoke blend of essential oils helps to stimulate the lymph to drain away puffiness. Our body cream contains highly moisturising extracts such as Rosehip and Kukui Nut Oils as well as pure, high grade Hyaluronic Acid, which is found naturally in the skin and largely responsible for skin tissue hydration and plumping, as it can bind up to a thousand times its own weight in water.
