How to create a skincare routine

Posted by Rebecca Hopkins on

It can be incredibly confusing to build a skincare routine from scratch. Knowing which order to apply products and knowing which ingredients work together is incredibly important. At Balance Me, we like to keep things simple.

5 minutes of daily self-care can dramatically improve your skin health and boost your mood. Choose from our formulas depending on your skin concern, skin type and result you wish to achieve. You can mix and match between our ranges to build a routine that suits you.

A good rule to follow is to apply skincare onto cleansed skin in order of texture, from thinnest to thickest since thinner products will not be able to penetrate thicker ones.

A skincare routine does not need to take a long time or involve lots of products. As a guide, we suggest the following:

AM

2 minutes of Self-Care: CleanseSerumMoisturiserSPF

Or

5 minutes of Self-Care: CleanseMistSerumEye CreamMoisturiserPrimerSPF

PM

5 minutes of Self-Care: Double CleanseSerumMoisturiser or OilSleep Mist

Or

10 Minutes of Self-Care: Double CleanseSerumEye CreamMoisturiser or OilSleep MistSleep Concentrate

Frequently Asked Questions:

Which order should I double cleanse?

We recommend removing makeup, dirt and spf with a micellar water, then follow with an oil based hot cloth cleanser.

How often should I exfoliate?

Exfoliating is an incredibly important step after cleansing to remove dead skin cells and priming your skin ready for your serum. Our gently exfoliating mist can be used daily even on sensitive skin. Exfoliating with AHAs or BHAs should be less frequent depending on your skin type. As a guide, we would suggest 2-3 times per week and preferably in the evening.

Can I layer serums?

Of course. We love pairing our Tri-Molecular Hyaluronic Serum with our Vitamin C Repair Serum in the morning.

Can I use a serum without following up with a moisturiser? ?

You can use serums alone, yes but the advantage of a moisturiser/oil after serum is to lock in moisture and protect the surface of the skin. Think cardigan (Serum) and coat (cream/oil).

Can I apply an oil and a moisturiser?

We recommend either adding a couple of drops of face oil into your moisturiser to boost the efficacy or apply instead of moisturiser.
