When Balance Me became a certified B Corporation in 2022, it was as a result of years of hard work and passionate dedication from founders Rebecca and Clare, who always wanted to create a skincare brand with purpose. Proving that there can be more to skincare than just having great skin, Rebecca and Clare went above and beyond to achieve their dream of joining the B Corp community and took Balance Me from being an incredible skincare brand, to officially being an incredible skincare brand, with heart.
“We believe that a business can be a force for good,” explained Clare. “We’ve lived and breathed the B Corp ethics from the very beginning of Balance Me, but now we are joining other B Corp companies and we’re accountable to our community, our employees, suppliers and the environment.” Rebecca adds: “We are committed to balancing people, profit and the planet. B Corp demonstrates that we as a business are sustainable and ethical in all its varieties.”
So why do Balance Me go beyond? It’s simple really. When it comes to the people they work with, Rebecca and Clare really care. Whether it’s making sure their team of employees are looked after by rewarding them with healthcare policies to encourage them to stay fit and healthy, matching any charitable funds employees have raised, or taking the time to educate their customers on key lifestyle topics like sustainability and the menopause, our founders recognise the importance of their community. ‘It is at the heart of everything we do and we involve, listen and collaborate with them in decision making.”
Balancing profit is also key to our founders’ commitment to B Corp. “We donate 20% of our profit to charity,” says Rebecca. “This year our chosen charity is The Hygiene Bank because we believe that everyone has a right to be clean but over the years we’ve worked with some amazing charities, through monetary donations, product donations and volunteering programs.”
Balance Me also likes to give the planet a big, warm hug and that’s all down to Rebecca and Clare’s passion for sustainability and the environment; “We set ourselves two goals,” Clare explains. “The first was to keep our products 99% natural, and the second was that by the end of 2022, 96% of our purchases would be recyclable, renewable, reusable or would contain recycled material.” So did they do it? Clare replies, “we smashed it!” Of course they did. They also encourage their team to work from home to help reduce the brand’s carbon footprint.
