PHOTOGRAPHY: DOs and DON’Ts

Environment: lighting and backdrop

Do

✔ Face a window for natural light and no shadows.

✔ Take the image at the same time of day, ideally in the morning.

✔ Consistency is key. Choose the same spot each time you take a photo.

✔ facial expressions consistent across all photos. A natural expression works best

DON'T USE

❌ Dark lighting & shadows

❌ Busy & distracting backgrounds

❌ Varied lighting & backgrounds for different photos

Equipment: Quality control

DO

✔ Use a phone with high quality camera

✔ Use the back camera rather than the front camera of your phone to get the best quality

✔ Clean camera lens before use

DON'T USE

❌ Cracked lens, dirty lens

❌ Selfie camera on iPhone (use the back)

Photo taking: angles and expressions

DO

✔ Take 3 photos from different angles: 1 front on, 1 of your right side, and 1 of your left side

✔ Remove makeup so we can see your skin

✔ Make sure we can see your whole face: tie hair up and remove accessories

✔ Keep facial expressions consistent across all photos. A natural expression works best
