WE'RE A B CORP!

We are immensely proud to announce that we are now an official B Corporation!

When we first started Balance Me, we wanted to create a brand that helped women like you feel good about their skin, using the best blend of natural ingredients we could find to achieve that.  However, what has also been at the heart of everything we do, is ensuring we’re responsible. That is why we’re so excited to make our official B Corp announcement!

In short, it shows our commitment to balancing people, planet and profit.  We are now part of a wider Global movement that is committed to making business a force for good.  We’ve lived and breathed these standards from the very beginning, however now we have the B Corp framework to help us achieve even more.

Thanks for your ongoing support on this journey.

WHAT IS A B CORPORATION?

B Corp certification is the world’s leading measure of how consciously a business makes its products, treats its people, chooses its suppliers, governs its actions, respects its community and helps the environment.

It demonstrates that at Balance Me we not only create brilliant skincare, we balance people, planet and profit in a respectful way.

BALANCING, PEOPLE, PLANET + PROFIT

We care about your skin, and we care about the planet. We are proud to create skincare with purpose, where 20% of our profits go to charity, where we are responsible with our sustainable packaging and where we award our employees with private healthcare that rewards them for staying active. And we will not stop there. We are constantly improving our social and environmental performance with transparency and accountability. Simply put, we are championing for change within the skincare space.

HOW WE BALANCE PEOPLE, PLANET + PROFIT

ABOUT B CORP

B Corp companies do not measure profit as the main driver of success. Instead, they compete to be and do the best for the world, with a vision of “making business a force for good.”  To secure B Corp certification, a company is vigorously assessed and needs to score 80 points out of a possible 200 points. It is carried by B Lab, the non-profit network behind the B Corp movement, who assess all aspects of a company including People; community, customers, employees, Planet; environment, sustainability as well as Profit; charity donations and partnerships. We are very proud that Balance Me exceeded the minimum score, with 101 points - and we are committed to growing this too.

PEOPLE

Community is at the heart of everything we do. We collaborate, listen and involve our community in product development and research (including our Beauty Panel who test our products), ensuring the products we create make them feel good and their skin look good, and that the ingredients and blends we use are the very best in natural skincare. Our customers are the heartbeat of our brand.

We help educate our customers on important topics such as sustainability, always striving to improve our packaging to make the recycling process as easy as possible for them. We educate our customers on important life stages such as the menopause. We conduct regular research with them too, understanding their expectations of Balance Me and how we can strive to improve the brand.

As a female-founded brand, we champion women at all times. Whether that’s through the charity partners we work with or the brand and influencer collaborations we do with like-minded female-owned businesses, we want women to feel empowered by their purchase decisions with Balance Me.

Our female-led team is just as important to us. We have healthcare policies that reward our team to stay fit and healthy, and we match any charitable funds raised by our employees, on a pound-for-pound basis.  We offer formal training on core job responsibilities as well as reimbursements for intensive educational courses to our employees. Ultimately, we hire a workforce who live and breathe our values and are just as passionate as we are about them.

We are committed to promoting diversity. This is a constant touchpoint for us when making business decisions and planning campaign activities throughout the year. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind; whether it be related to race, religion, gender, age, physical or mental disability, political opinion, parenthood or other classification of discrimination.

OUR FUTURE GOALS: PEOPLE

1. Continue and upweight our charity initiatives with female-focused partners that help to empower women

2. Introduce our new volunteering programme with our charity partner, arranging 4 x volunteering days a year with our team

3. Continue to monitor customer reviews to ensure we’re consistently scoring 4* and above

PLANET

We are passionate about the environment. Currently, 96% of our packaging is recyclable, renewable, contains recycled materials and/or is reusable. We are incredibly proud that at the end of 2022, we achieved that goal, increasing it from 92%.

Our tubes are composed of 50% recycled plastic and our pumps are following suit. We have already started stepping our bottles up from 50% to 100% recycled plastic. Our decorative cartons and web boxes are fully FSC certified. We take the planet so seriously, we also promote flexible working from home to help prevent unnecessary travel, carbon emissions and pollution.

PRODUCT

The ingredients in each of our formulations are 99.98% naturally occurring, derived from or nature identical. Moving forwards our aim is for all new products to be 99% naturally occurring, derived from or nature identical as above. We create our skincare with high performance bio-actives and choose to formulate without silicones, sulphates, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, propylene glycol, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance, synthetic colours, TEA, DEA, MIT, CMIT, PEGS in line with our own personal brand mission. We have never tested on animals. Our fragrances are 100% natural with no synthetic fragrance. We also use upcycled ingredients in our Vitamin C Eye Serum and are currently formulating NPD using new upcycled ingredients. We also clearly state on all our packaging what material it is made of using internationally recognised triangle symbols, helping our customers recycle after use and close the recyclability loop.

Our London office is in a shared co-working space, Second Home, that is also officially B Corp. They’ve always stood for adaptive reuse of existing buildings, rather than using new ones. They only use 100% green energy that is renewable and materials that are recyclable. We also have a written policy encouraging environmentally preferred products and practices in employee virtual offices (e.g., recycling).

As a rule, we only work with British suppliers who can commit to our standards. We develop our products in the UK to play our part in building a more sustainable ecosystem, creating jobs in local communities. It also means a reduced carbon footprint as our products don’t travel as far. We have long-term valued working relationships (of five years and more) with our British suppliers.

OUR FUTURE GOALS: PLANET

4. All new products to be 99% naturally occurring, derived from or nature identical

5. Future packaging is at least 96% either/and recyclable, from recycled content, contain recycled materials, renewable or re-usable

PROFIT

Charity partnerships have been core to our brand for a long time. We’ve collaborated with some amazing charities through product donations, monetary donations and team volunteering, over the years.

We actively donate to charities including Beauty Banks, House of St. Barnabas, The Hygiene Bank, Surfers Against Sewage, Hackney Food Bank and Shelter to get hygiene products to those under the poverty line, because we believe that everyone has the right to be clean. This year, 2023, 20% of our profits in products will be donated to amazing causes like this.

We are so passionate about our charity partnerships that this year we’re proud to announce our official charity partner; The Hygiene Bank, as we believe that everyone has the right to be clean.

OUR FUTURE GOALS: PROFIT

6. We are formally committed to donate more than 20% of profits to charity each year

IN CONCLUSION

We are very proud of what we have achieved so far, but the journey doesn’t stop here. As a B Corp, we will continue to be assessed, striving for even better scores and ways to improve our business. And as a company that cares, we will continue to make business decisions that are a force for good.
